Toluca Lake is a fairly small neighborhood, but it does have a thriving commercial center. Riverside Drive runs through the community, offering a wide selection of shops and services. At the eastern edge of Toluca Lake, Riverside Drive becomes vibrant and eclectic. Here, the thoroughfare is lined with niche shops, independent boutiques, and upscale home goods stores. Thanks to the absence of chain retailers in this zone, it feels like an undiscovered gem of a district. Photos are fairly scarce, but on-line listings show a living room anchored by a corner fireplace sporting a marble surround, along with a spacious dining room/workspace that sits adjacent to a kitchen outfitted with newer stainless appliances.

Toluca Lake is quiet and understated for much of the year, but that all changes during the holiday season. Halloween gets the ball rolling, and the outrageously decorated houses wow children from all over the city. Christmas brings a wonderland of lights to Toluca Lake, and businesses along Riverside Drive give away freebies and hot chocolate to anyone and everyone. Essential API Design Patterns: A Guide to Crafting Superior Web Services

api design patterns

Affordance is the possibility of an action on an object or environment. An API with clear perceived affordance allows the developer to understand its purpose and to use it seamlessly inside the Cybernetic Environment it was designed for. Those are just two potential uses for your machine-readable API definition, in which you can create OpenAPI definition files using YAML or JSON. Stoplight Studio can read existing OpenAPI files from any git repo, and you can make edits—or start from scratch—within a beautiful editing environment.

Architectural Styles of APIs

It has a unique number for every character across multiple languages including Chinese, Korean, and Arabic, and their scripts. The unique number makes almost all characters identifiable and accessible across platforms, programs, and devices. Including the URI as part of the location header as the response to the newly created resource is another method of discoverability.

API Design Patterns: Best Practices for Building Resilient APIs

It should follow consistent style conventions, include built-in security mechanisms for authentication and data encryption, and reliably handle large volumes of traffic. Once you've completed your API definition, you can use it to generate mock servers. Mock servers return sample data in response to requests, which enables you to confirm that your API will work as you intend it to. Mocks can also be used alongside API tests, which can be run manually, on a schedule, or automatically within CI/CD pipelines. Testing and mocking during the API design process will help you catch and remediate any issues before they find their way into your consumers' codebases, when they are much more difficult to fix.

Software Application Architecture

A long and difficult-to-read base URL is not just bad to look at, but can also be prone to mistakes when trying to recode it. There’s no rule on keeping the resource nouns singular or plural, though it is advisable to keep collections plural. Having the same plurality across all resources and collections respectively for consistency is good practice.

Finally, we run filter on with each query parameter value to locate the items that we want to return. Filtering and pagination both increase performance by reducing the usage of server resources. As more data accumulates in the database, the more important these features become.

api design patterns

We filter all the records that are related to the workout id out of the query parameter. Chances are high that have we to implement CRUD endpoints for the records as well, because records should be added, updated or deleted in the future as well. I always imagine that the HTTP verb describes the action (what we'd like to do) and the URL itself (that points towards a resource) the target.

store.requestReadingListSpecificationForProduct(

RESTful API design is the process of designing an API that follows the principles of Representational State Transfer (REST), which is the most popular API architecture today. In a RESTful architecture, resources are identified by URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers), and the client interacts with those resources with standard HTTP methods such as GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE. When designing an API service, data retention is a critical aspect of servicereliability. It is common that user data is mistakenly deleted by software bugsor human errors. Without data retention and corresponding undeletefunctionality, a simple mistake can cause catastrophic business impact. Sometimes an API client only needs a specific subset of data in theresponse message.

As you can see, we've added the two properties "memberId" and "member" to our records inside the database. This has the huge advantage that we don't have to nest deeper our existing endpoint. The endpoint now becomes less manageable the more nesting we add to it. Therefore it's a good practice to store the URI to receive information about a member directly into the record. Now we're able to create a new route in our workout router and direct the request to our record service.

A developer who is consuming the API is now better informed about what to look for. They immediately know to go inside the request body and see if they've missed providing one of the required properties. To improve the request validation you normally would use a third party package like express-validator. To be able to parse the sent JSON inside the request body, we need to install body-parser first and configure it. Again, I've chosen to name the method inside here the same as the one in the service and the controller. Because of its standardization, API's should accept and respond with data in JSON format.

It’s important to thoroughly understand how an API will be used and get feedback from collaborators, such as with mock API servers. As you design your API, you’ll want to rely on these methods to express the primary purpose of a call rather than adding the purpose to the RESTful API URL. Versioning is important in API design because it allows you to make changes to your API without breaking existing clients.

The documentation helps make developers' lives a lot easier, too. Inside the first middleware we'll check if the user is authenticated. If this is true, we'll go to the next middleware, that would be the one for checking the user's role. If the user has the appropriate role for accessing this resource the request is be passed to the corresponding controller.

23 Essential Things to Pack in Your Cruise Carry-On Bag

what to pack on cruise

You’ll also want to keep items that are valuable or fragile with you. I recommend that women wear a bathing suit cover up that looks like a sundress, or actually IS a sundress, when going on shore excursions. You may be going to the beach, but there may be other stops along the way and you’ll want to look like your dressed. Because most of the walls in cabins are magnetic, many cruise lines allow travelers to use magnetic hooks. Use them to hang hats and lanyards, or decorations if you’re celebrating a special occasion. You’ll find that even if you left the ship in the morning on a full charge, your phone might need some extra juice while you’re out in port.

For the cruise ship

First, passports are smart in case something comes up and you have to leave the cruise early to return home. To be honest, however, the vast majority of cruises go off without a hitch. Having a few episodes to binge on a cruise is one of our guilty pleasures. It’s also a great way to keep kids entertained if you feel like taking it easy in the cabin. To be sure, not all wi-fi connections on a cruise allow streaming, and even if they do, internet is expensive on the ship. Netflix (and other streaming apps) allows you to download many episodes to your computer or tablet beforehand so you can watch without an internet connection.

Bring a Pop up Mesh Laundry Bag

However, it’s a good idea to have small bills to tip the luggage porters as you drop off your luggage on embarkation day, or if they assist you for disembarkation. You may also want to tip for room service delivery, tour guides in a cruise port and have cash to make small purchases in a shore side market. You’ll be able to fill your coffee mug at the cruise ship buffet or cafe, and enjoy a big cup at any time of day. The water on board the ship is filtered and safe to drink, so bring refillable water bottles to sip from while on the ship by the pool and especially in port when going to the beach. Shoe bags are a great packing organizing tool for cruises and any travel.

Lohas LED Dimmable Night Light

Or, I'll bring one solid color dress and wear it twice, but with different accessories. Note which shore excursions you'll be doing and keep in mind your fitness routine before packing. Men will also be required to cover legs and shoulders at most religious monuments, so be prepared ahead of time and reconsider shorts and tank tops. Make sure to be prepared for possible motion sickness on a cruise.

Going on a road trip? These games will help you pass the time

Not only will it make sure you don’t miss any onboard activities, it’s also nice to know what time it is if you wake up in the middle of the night. Get you an extra pair for your trip and put them in your luggage immediately so that you don’t have to worry about forgetting them later. Lanyards come in handy for putting your cruise keycard at easy reach.

9 Cruise Packing Hacks That Will Revolutionize the Way You TravelCombat common packing problems with these simple solutions you never would have thought up on your own. And if you’re the sort of person who likes getting up early to be the first off the ship, then this $20 alarm clock is worth its weight in gold. Best of all, you don’t have to worry about big wet spots on your clothes if you use a cover instead of putting shorts and a tank top over your outfit.

what to pack on cruise

And if you need more cash on the ship, the ATMs onboard are pricey (expect fees of $6-7 per transaction). You can read our article here to figure out how much cash to bring with you. Whether you are hanging by the pool or don’t want to leave your valuables on the beach while taking a dip, a waterproof case is a must-have. Use it to keep your phone, wallet, keys, and anything else dry as a bone so you don’t have to worry just because you want to go swimming. Like a cellphone charger, you know to bring your shades on a cruise.

When shopping, look for one with a few regular outlets and USB ports. The total number of outfits that you are going to want to bring depends on the length and type of cruise. There are no self-service laundry facilities onboard, but washing, pressing, and dry-cleaning services are offered (prices vary per item). It is best to plan clothes for the number of days plus a return home outfit. Two outfits per day is a good rule of thumb (day and night). Pack a travel coffee mug so you can fill up on the free stuff. I also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle and filling it up at the buffet or even a bar. It helps reduce plastic waste, and you don't bust your budget buying bottled water.

If you’re headed somewhere with loads of time for sand and surf, you might want to bring along your own snorkel and goggles so that you can set off on snorkeling excursions at whim. Travel aids like earplugs, a travel pillow, and a sleeping mask can help make long flights or car rides more comfy. A pack of travel-sized antibacterial wipes is always a good idea to help wipe down germ-prone surfaces as needed. Bring along your makeup (and don’t forget the makeup remover). You might also want a small bottle of perfume or cologne, too. In the case of emergency, you can always restock most of these items from the onboard shops or from a drugstore in port.

Putting soft items in handbags will preserve the shape of designer handbags. Rolling clothes is a great way to pack clothing and reduce wrinkles. Many people also claim that rolling clothing is also a space saver. Pack a few bandaids in a baggy and throw them into your cruise shore excursion bag.

Knowing what clothing to pack for a cruise can be especially challenging, and cruise line dress codes don't always match what passes as acceptable on board. The key to maximizing your wardrobe on the high seas is working with a few core pieces of clothing and mixing them up over the course of your itinerary. That's especially handy for evening wear, which tends to be bulkier and take up more luggage space. For the most part, cruising on mainstream lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norwegian (NCL) has become an almost entirely casual affair.

Bring a handful and know that you’re covered for anything you might encounter. Hang it over the bathroom door and you have a perfect place to put small items like deodorant, shampoo bottles, sunscreen bottles, and anything else. This way you don’t have to take up valuable counter space in the small ship bathrooms. They also fold up flat so they don’t take up much room in your luggage. It’s been said that the key to a happy marriage is a good bathroom fan (ok, we just made that up). Unfortunately, cruise ships don’t offer fanned vents and the cabin is pretty small.

Everyone knows to bring some sandals if you’re headed to the beach, but if you’re going on a cruise then you should also bring some comfy walking shoes. Excursions (or just exploring the port) involves a lot of walking. You don’t want your feet to be uncomfortable while you are on vacation. Ok, most people know to pack a pair of flip-flops on their trip. Those cheap flip-flops can have a sole that’s rubbed smooth.

Taxis are common in the area surrounding the Salvador cruise port. If you’re looking to go beyond the historic district, you’ll want to make transportation plans via taxi or bus before you head to the nearby beaches, or book a shore excursion. From a visiros perspective, arrival in the port includes a special welcoming performance. In the port itself, guests have access to a park and recreation area with beach access that is specially designated for cruise ship passengers. However, there are many other options in the way of shore excursions, including the Flower Route, a visit to the capital city of San Salvador and a visit to ancient Maya ruins.

Cruiser Guide to El Salvador Part 1: Arrival and practical stuff

Several cruise lines currently include Acajutla on Central American itineraries, including Princess Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises. Known for being some of Central America’s best surfing spots, the coast of El Salvador is the perfect playground for those looking to splash among the crystal clear blue waters. The warm waters and welcoming locals make it a tranquil destination for tourists and travellers. Head to La Libertad and enjoy fresh fish and catch a perfect wave or opt for a location like El Sunzal for vibrant nightlife.

Vacation Deals

It is a well-known location for divers who come from all around to flock to the resort to enjoy a long diving tour. Nearby are opportunities to take chartered fishing boats, high-flying canopy tours, and walking tours of the Izalco Volcano. Salvador has a vast system of buses and a metro used often by locals.

El Salvador Cruise Deals

With a variety of impressive cruise excursions, it's easy to see why El Salvador's ports of call are becoming more popular. There is little to see at the port itself, though the El Salvadoran tourist board has created a small park and craft market on site for cruisers to check out via a courtesy shuttle. There is no town within walking distance, so cruisers interested in touring the region will need to book an excursion, either through the cruise line or a private tour operator. Port Acajutla cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Acajutla, El Salvador. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

That was last April and as you know from our recent post about daily life we’re still here! A famous seaport on the south coast of El Salvador, Acajutla is a South American city filled with leafy suburbs, galleries, museums and walking trails that meander through the recently planted city greenery. Dive into the cultural markets and experience a taste of the real El Salvador and explore its rich coffee and sugar-marking history. The handful of cruise lines that visit El Salvador during Panama Canal or westbound post-Canal sailings primarily stop at the country's main seaport, Acajutla, a massive industrial port on the Pacific Ocean.

Destinations Suppliers

The port has recently been outfitted with new, modern facilities, including a docking berth of 360 meters and a depth of 14 meters at low tide. Tourists wishing to explore upon their arrival to the La Unión Port will find a variety of exciting options that are available year-round. You'll notice a lot of armed policemen at the beach and the craft market. Their presence does not necessarily indicate tourists are in danger, though as with anywhere keep an eye on your belongings and don't wear any flashy jewelry. The increased police presence is more the result of a need for jobs for soldiers previously engaged in the country's civil war than safety issues for visitors.

From finding the right destination to choosing the best departure date, we're here to help. Plus, our experienced travel consultants have access to exclusive vacation deals to make sure you get the best value for your time and money. Acajutla, on the west coast, has some of the most modern cruise port facilities in Central American.

The changing menu utilizes local ingredients, all imagined from the creative genius of its chef, Hugo Ribeiro. Art lovers will be enamored by Salvador’s Museum of Modern Art of Bahia, which is visited by over 200,000 visitors each year from all corners of the world. Contemporary art by Brazilian artists is just the beginning at MAM-BA. Sandwiched on the hilly coast in Dois de Julho, the museum is also known for its spectacular waterside views. This historical landmark is a must-see for anyone visiting Porto da Barra Beach and the surrounding areas.

We’ve made friends with so many of the staff and loved our time at the dock. Wifi at the hotel is usually reasonable quality – it’s good in the restaurant, bar, and pool and the nearest docks. For the outer docks you probably need a wifi extender to pick it up. There can be quite a bit of wake from weekend party boats and it can get a bit noisy when there are groups doing karaoke! There’s a weekly membership fee for pool use, discounted laundry service, and bar & restaurant discounts. Even if you’re not staying at the marina, you can do the membresía and access the facilities.

For visitors interested in Mayan culture, a visit to Joya de Cerén, located just 74 kilometers away from Acajutla is a "must". Joya de Cerén is one of the most important sites for Mayan civilization, where visitors can see the remains of a farming village, conserved intact under layers of volcanic ash. Known locally for the famous food of Pupusa, round cornmeal tortillas stuffed with cheese, refried beans, sweet potato, herbs and pork. You’ll find an abundance of these local establishments in the coastal town and villages of El Salvador. Wash it all down with a traditional drink like licuados or chilate. El Salvador, officially the Republic of El Salvador, is a country in Central America.

The Acajutla port is an industrial port; cruise passengers are not permitted to walk beyond the length of the ship. A courtesy shuttle is provided to take passengers to the nearby Acajutla beach, as well as a small craft market and playground. The craft market -- which consists of local vendors selling a variety of handmade craft items like sandals and jewelry mixed in with T-shirts, shot glasses and more -- is usually open for several hours after the ship first arrives. Passengers hoping to hit the market after a morning tour might be disappointed to find most sellers have already departed by the time the tours get back. Refreshments including ice cream, cold drinks and pupusa (soft, thick corn tortillas filled with cheese and other ingredients) are sold at the craft market.

It’s small enough that you can easily visit most of the country in a week. You can hire a car through the hotel and see beaches, volcanoes, archaeological sites, lakes, rivers, mountains, museums, and thermal springs in a few days. People have also had great experiences using this as a base for land travel throughout Central America. In Part 2 I’ll write about all our favourite places, both local hangouts and places to explore further afield, and how to easily get around. Three volcanic islands form an archipelago just off the coastline where visitors can explore lush vegetation, deserted beaches, fishing and a variety of other activities. Another option is to head to La Union's nearby mountain towns, getting to know local traditions, culture and customs.

Your cruise ship will dock at the Porto de Salvador, which is the third-largest port in all of Brazil. The port is situated on the eastern end of Salvador, where you’ll be met by views of the Bay of All Saints. The Tourist Terminal is equipped with a bathroom and a snack bar. Once you disembark, you’ll be only a few minutes’ walk from the Mercato Modelo and the city center. If you want to explore a fascinating country, this is the place.

This secluded and often overlooked location is a hubbub of life for adventurous surfers, coffee farms galore, rainforests with glistening waterfalls and vibrant towns and villages that are dotted across its dramatic lands. Centuries before colonization by Portuguese explorers, the capital city of Salvador was the home of indigenous people like the Gé and the Tupinambá. In 1549, the Portuguese arrived at the Bay of All Saints and founded what we now know as Salvador de Bahia. Today, it’s famous for its historic center and unique music, culture, and dance. For a high-end experience in Salvador de Bahia, there’s Sanctuarium Atelier Gourmet. This contemporary restaurant is known for its experimental dishes, extensive wine list, and award-winning multi-course dining.

The 1,400-passenger ship has been completely refurbished and fitted with emission reducing technologies. †In the event of your cruise being cancelled, you will be guaranteed a full refund.

With an average NPS score of 84, our guests rate their Ambassador experience highly, which is why 94 percent say that they would recommend us to their friends and family. Enjoy a premium value no-fly cruise that promises an authentic experience and the warmest welcome at sea. Experience exceptional service, savor outstanding cuisine, and be dazzled by amazing entertainment, all while exploring breathtaking destinations, all at unbeatable prices.

Certainly the ship’s refurbishment is a triumph and the Promenade Deck’s lounge and bar areas flow particularly well, as a glance at Ambassador Ambition’s deck plan makes clear. Cabin sizes come in at an average of sqm, with cabin types broadly classified as standard, superior, premium or de-luxe. However, while the décor in the lower grade cabins does look a little tired, we were impressed with the space they have (the smallest is 17.7 sqm), as well as the variety of options available to solo cruisers – more on this in our cabins section. Location wise, cabins at the aft of the ship are ideal for quicker access to both the Buckingham Restaurant and the Borough Market. Although saying this, there are three sets of lifts (which have a quirky design, left from its Pacific Dawn days) spread across Ambience, meaning it's pretty easy to manoeuvre your way around. Ambassador's Ambience has six dining options, including a main dining room, the Buckingham Restaurant on Deck 7; and a buffet called Borough Market on Deck 12.

Norwegian Fjord Cruises

It is our first time here in Vietnam and we chose Ha Long bay as one of our destination and we made the best choice. Places are so majestic, foods are very good especially the seafood. A hotel & cruise combo – an ideal combination of peaceful heavens above water to experience Northern Vietnam’s must-see landmarks or an all-inclusive cruise dedicated to discover the finest Halong Bay – you might have them all. Most of the lounge bars are on Deck 5 and 6, with the complimentary dining rooms at the back of each deck and entrances to The Palladium theatre at the front, so you can drift from dinner, to a bar and the show all on the same deck.

Towering above the city is the Veste Oberhaus, an impressive fortress dating back to the 13th century. The old town of Passau is known for its beautiful baroque architecture, especially the Cathedral of St. Stephen with its characteristic onion domes and the largest cathedral organ in the world with almost 18,000 pipes.. Browse through our hand-picked selection of sailings, each offering unforgettable journeys to some of the world's most breathtaking destinations and iconic ports of call.

Your journey begins in Passau and takes you via the impressive towns of Melk, Vienna and Linz before returning to Passau. Look forward to unforgettable moments that you will never want to forget. Enjoy every moment, because this journey is our way of thanking you and appreciating your loyalty. Halong Bay, one of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore this stunning destination with Ambassador Cruise and experience the best that Halong Bay has to offer.

As Britain’s newest cruise line, having only been operating since April this year, we are honoured and so grateful to all our guests and trade partners who voted. A special mention also goes out to all our crew on board - the awards are a clear recognition of the professionalism, dedication, and hard work they put in each day to deliver the warmest welcome at sea; all for unbeatable value. Specially designed for powerful and refined modern travelers, these floating luxury hotels are the greatest ways to discover charms of two of the world’s heritages. Had a very relaxing cruise into the Halong Bay islands; beautiful settling and most unusual. Tour included visits to a pearl farm and climbing island with amazing caves. Cabins range from singles at 7sqm to suites at up to 42 sqm with Ocean View and Inner cabins both 13sqm.

All have tea and coffee facilities and one or two UK three pin electrical sockets as well as USB ports, a hairdryer and flat TV screen. Lupino’s is £14.95 and offers a meze-like starter of six dishes, a choice of four main dishes, then a trilogy of three taster deserts. Saffron, at £16.95, also has a set meal where you just choose your main course, while Chef’s Table costs £89 and has 10 courses with wine. Alfresco Pizza Grill is a semi-covered area on the pool deck and is open for lunch and again from 3-6pm, which is handy if you’ve been off ship. Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition was renamed at Newcastle’s Port of Tyne cruise terminal in May 2023 by Shirley Robertson OBE, who won double Olympic Gold for Britain in sailing.

Of the 10 passenger decks three are solely for cabins and Deck 4 is for tender embarkations, although the gangway can also be on Deck 5 near Reception. During our sailing it was an older crowd, but there were a few multi-generational adult families, too. It's an attractive ship for solo cruisers with special programmes and a welcome cocktail party for single travellers. During Ambience's refurbishment, out of the 798 cabins only the suites and junior suites were given a full makeover -- and they are great with fresh, contemporary décor and extra touches. Deck 12 and 14 (there's no Deck 13) serve as the pool and sun deck and during its refit Ambassador Cruise Line upgraded the wooden decks, swimming pool, two hot tubs, and the iconic funnel, which is painted in the line's distinctive purple colour.

There are six dining options, plus a paid-for ice cream kiosk on the pool deck when the weather’s hot. Ambassador Ambition’s main dining room is Buckingham Restaurant on Deck 5, a light-filled room which has two dinner sittings. You won't find any children onboard Ambience apart from during the ship's dedicated multi-generational cruises. For fee options include Alfresco Grill, Saffron and Sea & Grass (both on Deck 12) and Chef's Table, which offers a speciality gastronomic experience.

Balcony cabins and suites are however reserved for Deck 10 and 11. Due to its special geographical location at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers, Passau is undoubtedly one of the most unique cities in Germany. But not only the location of the city on the three rivers is exceptional, Passau also offers its visitors numerous remarkable sights.

In terms of entertainment, Ambience has a number of day and night venues including Aces & Eights bridge and card room and the Ambassador Casino on Deck 6. Other facilities include Kapoor's, an onboard crafting studio, Bronte's library, and the shopping galleria, all of which can be found on Deck 6. There are 11 passenger decks on Ambience packed full of bars, restaurants and entertainment spaces. Our onboard health, hygiene and safety standards, together with our booking assurances and financial protection, means that you can sail with peace of mind guaranteed. Additionally, the indoor gym, boxing ring and group classes will offer even more physical enjoyment. The key to finding adult-only cruises is looking for those sailings that lack family appeal. Ships without children facilities and cruises with a strong focus on culture, food and history will naturally have far fewer kids onboard. G&S is now one of the fastest-growing Black travel groups in America.

FOR BOOKING INFO

On Seabourn ships, there are no children’s programs at all and it’s quite unusual to see families with kids on these cruises. Although parents could take their kids on a Seabourn cruise, they’ll have to entertain and supervise them 24/7 themselves. Their itineraries are packed with immersive activities, social events and cultural programs, catering perfectly to the millennial lifestyle where experiences are more important than materialism. Once you’re back on the ship after a day of exploration, award-winning entertainment options will reinforce the wisdom of leaving the kids at home.

While Carnival is also a family-friendly cruise line, it’s this kind of 21+ retreats that have proven immensely popular among grown-up passengers. You’ll still be at the same ship as the kids, but while they’re participating in a themed event or other kids’ activity, you’ll be swaying in a hammock, sitting at the bar or simply lazing in a sunbed. The Temptation cruise will feature the Red Room, a lifestyle-friendly space for couples to experiment with sexuality. There will also be themed parties, like a 1980s-inspired “Let’s Glow” neon event and a “Onezie Funzie” adult sleepover party. Another fantastic luxury cruise line, Seabourn also offers all-inclusive cruises focused on adults.

In between exploring Southern Caribbean shores, Freedom of the Seas delivers all new amped up thrills — like the twisting turning waterslide duo, The Perfect Storm. And bars that keep the party going — and the cocktails flowing — long after the sun sets. Yes, we are inviting you to sit back, kick your feet up and set sail with us as we visit not one, but two beautiful Bahamian islands. Alternatively, the Cloud 9 Spa Thermal Suite offers ultimate relaxation with its steam baths, dry heat rooms and other climate-controlled areas.

Wherever you choose to wander, you’ll find plenty of unparalleled thrills onboard in between adventures ashore. We’ve got something magical lined up just for you – the Grown & Sexy Spring Break Cruise with Virgin Voyage! Get ready to set sail for 8 unforgettable nights of luxury, laughter, and a whole lot of Black Girl Magic. Many of the available on-board activities are also a bit “out of the box” and you won’t find them on any other cruise line. They include things like tent camping on the ship’s rooftop, silent disco parties, and top-deck wine and paint classes in some of Europe’s most picturesque locations. Let’s not forget, though, that Virgin Voyages will also feature tons of culinary and entertainment venues.

Imagine the sexy fun and hip vibe of Temptation Cancun Resort, then transfer it to a modern state-of-the-art cruise ship. You’ll be greeted by hot and crazy play-makers, top quality dining and sizzling theme nights. These adult-only voyages are the perfect way to indulge your inner wild-child while pushing the boundaries of your elevated expectations for a vacation at sea.

The minimum age on Oceania Cruises is 1 year, while passengers younger than 18 must be accompanied by and stay in the same stateroom as an adult. Unable to accommodate children younger than 8, while passengers under 21 must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 25 years old, Windstar Cruises also essentially offers adult-only cruises in practice. Additionally, Carnival Cruises is a great choice for honeymoon cruises, just because of their various adult-only areas.

The trips offer incredible value where you can enjoy nightly theme parties, celebrity DJ’s, comedy shows, seminars, ‘Praise at Sea’ and more. Travel with us and leave with newfound friendships, inspiration & motivation. Grown & Sexy cruises bring the atmosphere of the grown and sexy nightclub scene to the high seas, with plenty of dancing, music and casual meetups for passengers to enjoy.

While there may be people who show up solo, most will come with at least a significant other or roommate, and many will turn up in groups of friends, extended family and fraternity/sorority connections. There are also groups that have formed on the ships after return visits, year after year. There is no race or skin color requirement to attend black-themed cruise, but most people who have chosen the cruise have done so specifically to be in a majority space that they can't find elsewhere.

With a strict 18-years-or-older policy, all Viking Ocean Cruises have been adult-only cruises since the very beginning. Ever since they revolutionized the river cruise industry, with stylish ships appealing to an older demographic, they’ve been one of the leading cruise lines for grownups. With itineraries focused on immersion in local culture, cuisine and onshore activities, it’s a fantastic choice for a more sophisticated (and longer) cruise.

Enjoy 7 restaurants & bars ranging from casual to fine dining, with 4 specialty restaurants at minimal additional cost. You’ll also find a wide selection of beauty, fitness and wellness treatments at the spa. For your convenience, there’s an onboard shopping center featuring the biggest designer names and onboard exclusives at prices you won’t find on land. Some wiggled into the Jacuzzi tubs, others enjoyed more private conversations or lounging on chairs in the shade.

For that reason, when choosing which black cruise to book, you will also want to consider which cruise line and ship has been chartered. You'll find all of the things that people love about traditional cruising on an African–American cruise, but the difference is that American black vernacular and culture aren't limited to side chatter. We take a closer look at these black-themed cruises, so you can whittle down your options and find the right opportunity for your next getaway. The iconic Viking ships sail all over the world, including the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, the Caribbean and East Asia, and even round-the-world cruises. The ship is a state-of-the-art, 2,148-guest cruise ship from Original Group.

On top of the spaces themselves being kid-free havens, the menu items served within may also be a little advanced for the average tyke. Between hibachi crudo and filets at The Wake, carpaccio and truffle pasta at Extra Virgin, and mezcal pairings at Pink Agave, we keep our food and drink offerings mature and unexpected. A brand-new addition to, and some would say disruptor of, the cruise industry, Richard Branson’s Virgin Voyages hit the seas in 2020 and is a completely adult-only cruise line. To sail on any of its ships, passengers have to be 18 years or older. Temptation cruises offer a variety of naughty workshops for those who want to add spice to their vacation.

Alaska Shore Excursions

carnival cruise alaska excursions

If it all sounds a bit daunting, know that you don't need any experience at climbing to do it; I sure didn't have any when I tried it, nor did my young daughters, who absolutely loved it. There are multiple routes up the cliffs, some perfect for beginners. After making it to the top, you'll rappel back down — an entirely different kind of thrill. Once you arrive at the camp, you'll meet the dogs and their mushers, see where they live, get a quick tutorial in mushing, and then head out for a spin around the camp on a dog-pulled sled. I once took my entire family of five on this excursion, dropping more than $2,000 in the process. That's a huge chunk of change for an outing that lasts three hours.

Dog-sledding and glacier adventure by helicopter

Just beyond is a series of small, remote mountain lakes that would be next to impossible to reach on foot. Your pilot picks out one of the lakes, lands the floatplane, and turns off the engine. You can step out on the pontoon, breathe in the fresh air and listen to the silence. Well, we've done the legwork for you, and you find the answers to that question here. Since our film crews have shot more than 150 Alaska cruise excursions in the past few years, we know them intimately.

Adventure Karts Expedition

(Your tour operator will process, freeze, and ship the fish back home for you.) Sitka sits directly on the open ocean, so you can go after all five species of Pacific salmon in an easy outing from Sitka. The halibut fishing grounds are farther from shore, requiring a longer tour. All these species, plus lingcod, rockfish, and others feed heavily in Sitka Sound throughout the summer. It’s a great way to explore Alaska’s capital city, with lots of scenery and history along the way.

What It's Like Sailing on a Carnival Cruise in Alaska.

When you’re finished, you’ll go on a short walk through a dramatic old-growth forest. Experience kayaking in Alaska the way it should be — away from the crowds — with these unique Ketchikan paddling tours offered by Alaska Kayak Company. Your small group (usually just 4 people) will board the company’s comfortable boat and set off from the Ketchikan cruise-ship dock, leaving the big ships and the crowds behind. Get a thrilling, bird’s-eye view of Alaska’s snow-capped peaks, mountain lakes, waterfalls, and more on an unforgettable helicopter flightseeing tour from Ketchikan. Indeed, in some cases, the cruise lines own the tour operators in Alaska ports, or at least a piece of them.

The purchase window for certain products and activities closes before to the sail end date. If you missed the purchase window, check with us on board, we'll help you find what you’re looking for. But Carnival's greatest asset is the hardworking, friendly crew aboard Carnival Spirit. The ship feels nearly full, yet not understaffed (at least compared to 2019). And I'd forgotten how soft and welcoming the beds in Carnival's staterooms are, across all cabin categories.

I Spent 7 Days on My First Adults-Only Virgin Voyages Cruise

Their fascinating history and culture is one reason Ketchikan is such a special place to visit. Another important element of the town is the logging industry, which was one of the mainstays of the Ketchikan economy through the 1990’s. You'll drive your own jeep along private logging roads that wind up into the mountains, on your way to an alpine lake. Paddle across the shimmering lake to a shoreline camp for a delicious snack over an open fire. Enjoy some storytelling, then go on a short nature walk through a beautiful old-growth forest. For the listings below, I've used the tour names and pricing listed in the current tour sheets at Princess, which along with sister line Holland America, is the biggest cruise operator in Alaska.

There’s a bike and brew tour, which includes seeing the Mendenhall Glacier as well as a tasting of Alaskan beers. Or ride your bike out to Douglas Island for a tram ride, 1,800 feet up Mt. Roberts for some spectacular views. Pack Creek Bear Tours offers fully guided adventures to Admiralty Island or Chichagof Island, each home to more than 1,500 brown bears! After a beautiful 20- or 25-minute floatplane ride, you’ll land on a remote beach. Take a short walk to the bear-viewing area, where you can watch these magnificent creatures for hours in their natural environment. You'll stop off at a shoreline camp to enjoy a snack over an open fire.

The whole thing is covered with temperate rainforests and features huge waterfalls (thanks to all that rain). Ships like Carnival Miracle have more balconies than the fleet average, a plus for Alaska cruises. The cruise lines do not have the same suite selection that other cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line are known for in their vast fleets. Among their most unique sailings are 14-day cruises leaving from Seattle or Los Angeles.

Lying northwest of Canada, Alaska is known for its diverse terrain, wide open spaces, stunning mountain views and abundant wildlife. Thus it’s the perfect cruise destination for memorable experiences. After four days onboard, it's clear to see how well Carnival Spirit is suited to Alaska. This entire class of ship -- which encompasses Carnival Spirit, Pride, Miracle and Legend -- is already loved by cruisers for its relative spaciousness compared to other Carnival Cruise Line ships. In Skagway, veteran local entertainer and businessowner Steve Hites came onboard to perform his "Skagway in Story and Song" show before our ship left port.

Consider this excursion if you'd like to see a glacier up close without spending the money on a helicopter tour. A total of 123 individual shore excursions are offered on our sailing, and choosing really is the hardest part. Below, I've listed six of my all-time favorite Alaska shore excursions. These all are tours that you'll find in the tour lineups at every major cruise line that operates in Alaska. That said, different lines sometimes have different names for these tours — and sometimes different pricing. In keeping with their mission to deliver fun vacations at sea and ashore, Carnival offers a sizeable range of excursions for a variety of activity levels, ages, and interests.

Fan of the Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch" (or just enjoy seeing fishermen in action)? Then Ketchikan's Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's Tour is the shore excursion for you. Those who book it will ride along on Aleutian Ballad, a fishing boat featured in the second season of "Deadliest Catch." Misty Fjords National Monument is a Kethickan must-see, and on this flightseeing tour you view the magnificent scenery with a bird's-eye view from a seaplane. This pristine park encompasses nearly 2.3 million acres of sheer granite cliffs, imposing waterfalls, sparkling fjords and thick forests. The seaplane will also briefly land on water within the park to give you a taste of the serenity down below.

While most of their cruise itineraries focus on the Inside Passage, these sail further north across the Gulf of Alaska to Prince William Sound, with access to College Fjord and Anchorage. In addition to numerous ports of call, Carnival’s Alaska cruises provide lots of scenic cruising to spots such as Tracy Arm Fjord,  Endicott Arm Fjord, and the Hubbard Glacier. There are a few longer cruises that head up to the Hubbard Glacier, Valdez, and Seward. Embarkation ports include major cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco in California, as well as Seattle, which provides many convenient flight options.

You might also see the cascading Hole-in-the-Wall Glacier, the floating Dead Branch Glacier or the river-like East Twin Glacier before landing on Norris Glacier, home to a mushing camp. From the helicopter, you could also spot bears, moose, mountain goats and other wildlife. This tour takes place aboard a very famous crab fishing boat, fitted with a special on-deck aquarium for watching as the crew brings in their daily catch. Besides giant crabs and other amazing marine life, you might catch a glimpse of whales, octopus, sea lions, porpoise, sharks and seals. Fly in a classic seaplane oVisit Sitever the Juneau Icefield for a view of 5 breathtaking glaciers. After the thrill of your flight, you’ll land at a riverside lodge and settle in for an elegant and relaxing dinner of local wild-caught salmon.

Check out the views if you dare to open your eyes as you literally zip down the mountain at speeds of roughly 60 miles per hour. Screaming is, of course, not required (but just might make the ride more fun). At certain points, you are 300 feet above the forest floor and might also catch views of Port Frederick, Icy Strait and your cruise ship. When it comes to what to do in Alaska, adventure is at the top of the list! There are plenty of fun Alaskan shore excursions to help you make the most of your vacation. Carnival is, like every other cruise line, having some issues in Alaska with shore excursions needing to be modified or changed or, in some cases, canceled entirely due to tour operator staffing availability.

Your itinerary will begin by departing from Seattle and spending two days at sea. Finally, on Day 3, guests will encounter Tracy Arm Fjord – a narrow passageway between two large glaciers. You will enjoy sparkling waterfalls and icy sculptures on your journey.

From finding the right destination to choosing the best departure date, we're here to help. Plus, our experienced travel consultants have access to exclusive vacation deals to make sure you get the best value for your time and money.
